General FEDC FAQ
How do I access the FEDC in-person?
Ensure you have an INDIVIDUAL iLab Reservation for the area/equipment needed, visit ZACH 111 to check in, start iLab reservation, then work on your ACADMEIC course project.
What if I’m an Engineering Graduate/Research student?
Any request needing to be manufactured/prototyped can be submitted via the Engineering Service Center. For manufacturing your own part (fabrication center only) you can utilize the Red Badge course, and having a billable account number charged at a rate per hour of usage.
What if I’m a non-Engineering student?
Due to the facility being funded by Differential Tuition, we cannot serve projects outside of the College of Engineering. The Engineering Service Center, is still an option to non-Engineering faculty and staff.
How can I submit Service Request/Space Requests?
What PPE do I need to access the facility?
Full PPE, safety glasses, extended long pants, and sleeved-shirt, is required at all times. See Safety & PPE for more information.
What if I am in the Corps of Cadets?
From the Commandant’s Office: “Cadets should wear the ACU, and modify as necessary once they arrive to lab. “
Where can I get safety glasses?
Outside of ZACH 248, there is a PPE Vending Machine for safety glasses, paper pants, and health needs.
What if I just need a quick cut or part pick-up/drop-off?
See the Front Desk personnel for assistance. Any machine shop need must have an appointment before entry.
Can I bring a guest into the FEDC?
All guests going into the student work area must be cleared by FEDC Full Time personnel, please email firstname.lastname@example.org for approval. Upon approval, sign in visitor on visitor log and student on iLab.
What do I do if I want to set-up a photoshoot within then FEDC?
For any registered member, and with limited to no impact on FEDC operations, you are welcome to take photos of your project as needed. For bringing in non-FEDC members/professional media staff, please email email@example.com for approval.
How do I set up a consultation appointment?
Email firstname.lastname@example.org for an appointment. Include as much information regarding the project as possible, specifying if this is a 3D print, laser cutting, PCB, or fabrication project. The more information that is provided, the better we will be able to serve your request.
What do I do if there is an incident in the FEDC?
Report it immediately to Equipment Checkout or Machine Shop personnel.
What if I have a TAMU registered disability?
Contact Disability Services to get necessary documentation.
