Engineering Service Center
The Engineering Service Center provides graduate students, undergraduate & graduate researchers, departments, and TAMU system entities the opportunity to have parts fabricated, welded, 3D printed, laser cut, or a Printed Circuit Board (PCBs).
Note: In order to facilitate the processing of submitted requests, a 13-digit account number will be mandatory, with the applicable rate contingent upon the specific service being requested.
Team Accounts
The Fischer EDC team account is to officially register yourself or your team the ability to reserve space or request services from the Fischer EDC. Every Team is required to submit for a new “Team Account” (spaces will not be held over from the prior year). Teams will be given an allotment based on pre-defined criteria of team type/use.
Teams supported: Engineering Capstone & Senior Design Teams, Engineering Undergraduate Lab Teams, and College of Engineering-affiliated Competition Teams.
Service Requests
A FEDC technician can help in the fabrication or prototype of your part for the following: Academic request (engineering undergraduate ONLY) or research projects, graduate student work, or Principal Investigator funded research, or departmental requests
Services Requests offered: Fabrication, Printed Circuit Boards (PCB), High Fidelity, Low Fidelity, Laser Cutting & Engraving, and Vinyl Cutting & Lettering
Self-Service Requests
All requests through the following link are strictly for sponsored graduate research and departmental researchers who wish to complete fabrication work themselves. A 13 digit departmental account is required to submit and proceed with a self-service request.
Services Requests offered: Fabrication using the mil, lathe, saws, welding, plasma cutter, and advanced prototyping (foam cutter, injection molding, and composite fiber layup).
Space Reservation
All reservations are available for approved members in teams of the Fischer EDC. Teams are allowed to submit a request for specific equipment, storages, or workspaces. Space reservations are ranked on a priority of need to Capstone teams, ENGR labs, then approved FEDC competition teams. Spaces are only held for one academic year.
Space Reservation types: The space reservation options encompass a range of types, including Senior Design workbenches, Link Parking, Open Build areas, Rolling Cabinets, Lockers, and more. Availability of these spaces is determined on a case-by-case basis, with priority given to need and space availability.
Bay Door/Loading Dock Request
The Fischer EDC and the Zachry Facilities have accessible entry points to Design Studio and Machine Shop for the purpose of loading and unloading materials into the FEDC. These entry points can only be accessed between 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday to Friday. Visit the link below to see more information.
Zone Request types: Zachry Loading dock or FEDC’s bay doors. Facilities-Loading Dock Staff/FEDC Staff have a right to refuse deliveries without proper approvals.
Facility Tour Request
The Fischer EDC is an exclusive academic makerspace and design center that focuses on learning, designing, and building to make student academic success our priority.
Generally, our primary visitors are TAMU Engineering College/Department guests, Department prospective faculty, and Department new faculty.
Tour Request types: Lobby tour (great view of Project Design Studio, Fabrication Center, and Prototyping Facility with no PPE requirements), Full Facility Tour (PPE must be provided and is required throughout facility), and Zachry Common Labs (extremely limited due to academic instruction schedule).
