Fischer Engineering Design Center Membership

The Fischer Engineering Design Center (EDC) is a free-form community, designed to enhance the ability of engineering students to innovate, create and organize. Our goal at the Fischer EDC is to allow as much freedom and inspiration as possible.

General membership is on a tiered basis – only undergraduate engineering students can have the potential to utilize the entire facility without additional approval (contact [email protected]). 

  • Tier 1
    • Undergraduate Engineering Students (Academic)
      • General Membership: Design Studio and Build Space ( Rm 110 and 113) – Required for all other access.
      • Red Badge: Fabrication Shop (Rm 112)
  • Tier 2
    • Graduate Students (Engineering Service Center)
      • Engineering Departmental Research 
      • Private or commercial entity with an associated TAMU account

General membership allows:

  •  Undergraduates the ability to make a reservation to the design studio and the project build space.
  • Ability to check out tools from the tool room to be used inside the facility.

Steps to become a general member?

  1. Complete Fischer EDC Safety and Orientation quiz with a grade of 100% (General Membership quiz).
  2. Create a reservation on the Zachry Labs Scheduling system at zachlabs.libcal.com.

Additional steps to gain fabrication access?

  1. Ensure you are a Fischer EDC general member.
  2. Complete Fischer EDC Fabrication Safety quiz with a grade of 100% (Red Badge quiz).
  3. Register for in-person Red Badge Pop up class.
  4. AFTER you finish the pop up class please allow 2-4 business hours (8am-5pm) before you making your Badge Creation appointment.

What are the terms of this membership?

The Fischer EDC membership is FREE to all Texas A&M engineering undergraduate students. We ask that you follow all rules posted in the facility and abide by the Fischer EDC contract listed below. All Zachry labs, including the Fischer EDC, requires safety glasses, sleeved shirts, long pants that cover the opening of your shoes, and closed-toed shoes.

Please note: Food and drinks are not allowed in any portion of the design labs. We expect students and groups to clean up any trash they leave behind. Failure to obey these rules will result in a loss of Fischer EDC privileges.

The Seven Fischer EDC Rules & Regulations:

  1. I will abide by all posted PPE rules and regulations at all times. 
  2. I will treat all staff, members, and the facility with respect.
  3. I will maintain a clean and organized workspace.
  4. I will return all tools in their original condition by the end of its reservation period.
  5. Tools from outside the Fischer EDC must be authorized and approved by the Fischer EDC Lab Management.*
  6. I will notify the staff immediately of any safety infractions or concerns. Help keep everybody safe!
  7. I will have guests checked in at the Fischer EDC Front Desk and accompany them throughout the facility.

Differential tuition pays for enhancements to the learning experience of undergraduate students in engineering. These enhancements include extra sections of overfull courses, new computers and equipment, and even extra lecturers to teach classes. Learn more about differential tuition here.
